At ABEP, we believe in the power of collective action and the strength of diverse voices. We are on a mission to advance the economic well-being of Black individuals and communities across the nation. As a member of our esteemed Board of Directors, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Black economic empowerment.
What is required of your commitment:
8-10 hours/month
Attend Meetings: Attend bi-monthly board meetings; including a minimum of one monthly committee meeting
Join a Committee: Understand and sign onto the function and participation with one of ABEP's five committees
Community Engagement/Spokesmanship: Participation in ABEP community events
Professional Training:
Understanding of board bylaws and practices; Complete required board member training and any additional training required of their committee/s and training that relate to the ongoing health and wellbeing of the organization.
Complete ABEP Board Training, Finance, and Ambassador training.
Goals Assessment
Quarterly
Participate in bi-yearly organization-wide and personal assessment
360 review process: Board Members, Committee Members, and Workers
The Process
The ABEP Board selects new members at the end of each fiscal year in December, if there are open Board seats due to term expirations and/or resignations. The terms will be for two years, with appointments commencing immediately in January. The timeline for this process is as follows:
October - Active recruiting and requests for nominations
November – Application review and interviews
November 14 - Deadline for applications and nominations
December 6 - Candidate slate finalized
December 13 - Board approval of slate
January 10 - New Board Member Orientation/Onboarding Meeting
January 24 - New Members’ First Board Meeting
